Messina, Petry Earn ABCA All-Region Honors – University of South Carolina Athletics
OMAHA – University of South Carolina junior catcher Cole Messina and sophomore outfielder Ethan Petry were named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Atlantic Region teams, it was announced this afternoon (Tuesday, June 11). Messina was named to the first team while Petry was a second team selection.
Outstanding Performances
Messina led Carolina with a .326 batting average to go along with 64 runs scored, 19 doubles, 21 home runs, 71 runs-batted-in, 50 walks and eight stolen bases. Messina threw out 13 runners trying to steal, including three in the Raleigh Regional opener against James Madison (May 31). He was named to both the All-SEC Tournament team and the All-Raleigh Regional team.
Messina set the SEC Tournament record with 16 RBI in the five games played and had two home runs, including the game-winner, in a victory over Arkansas (May 22). He was named to the All-SEC second team after hitting .330 with 12 doubles, six home runs and 28 RBI in conference contests.
Petry played in 61 games for the Gamecocks this season and hit .306 with 57 runs scored, eight doubles, a triple, 21 home runs, 53 RBI and 51 walks. He had over 20 home runs in a season for the second straight year and is now tied for fifth all time in career home runs in Carolina baseball history. He was named to the All-Raleigh Regional team, going 2-for-4 with a double in the win over James Madison (May 31). He had 17 multi-hit games and 14 multi-RBI performances in 2024.
Next Steps
Messina is now eligible for ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I All-America honors, which will be announced on Friday, June 14.
