The local community in Lexington County, South Carolina is in shock as a high school math teacher has been arrested and charged with criminal solicitation of a minor. The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department (LCSD) confirmed the arrest this Friday.
The Accused: A White Knoll High School Teacher
The accused, 26-year-old Timothy Garrison, is a math teacher at White Knoll High School. According to the arrest warrant, in November 2023, Garrison allegedly communicated with a 14-year-old girl through the dating app Bumble and the social media app Kik.
Criminal Charges: Sexual Coercion Attempt
Upon examining the communication details, the authorities found that Garrison had made sexual advances to the minor. He asked her explicit questions regarding her sexual preferences and he discussed other sexual matters with her. The LCSD reports indicate that his interaction was geared “for the purpose of or with the intent of persuading, enticing, coercing the person to engage in sexual activity.”
Legal Course: Defendant Released on Bond
Garrison was taken into custody and held at the Lexington County Detention Center. He was subsequently released on a $5,000 surety bond. The legal proceedings for the case are set to follow.
School’s Response: Teacher Placed on Administrative Leave
White Knoll High School and Lexington County School District One addressed the incident in a statement on Monday. They said, “As part of a law enforcement investigation into internet crimes against minors, a teacher at White Knoll High was arrested on Friday.”
The statement further clarified, “We have no indication that the charges are connected to any Lexington One students. The teacher has been placed on administrative leave, and district and school officials are cooperating fully with law enforcement.”
Ongoing Investigation:
While this single incident is disturbing enough, the authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter. They are currently examining whether Garrison might have used similar means to communicate with other underage individuals. At this time, there are no other victims identified, but the investigation is ongoing.
Protecting our Children:
This incident serves as a grave reminder of the potential dangers and harms that the digital world may present to the younger generation. Parents, educators, and communities must remain vigilant, ensuring the online safety of children.
Officials also urge anyone who may have information related to the case or might be aware of similar incidents involving Garrison to come forward and contact the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.
