High School Sports Update: State Golf Tournament Overview
Madison – The first day of the state golf tournament at University Ridge saw defending Division 1 champion Divine Savior Holy Angels take the lead with a team score of 320. They are sitting six strokes ahead of Middleton, who scored 326.
Other schools in the Division 1 standings included Prescott at 335, Brookfield East with 336, and Arrowhead at 339. Kaukauna is currently in seventh place with a score of 344, while Bay Port follows in ninth after shooting 359.
In terms of individual performances in Division 1, McKenna Nelson from Beaver Dam/Wayland Academy had an outstanding day, shooting a remarkable 7-under-par 65. She holds a three-stroke lead over Payton Haugen of Brookfield East, who managed a score of 68. Notably, they are the only two players across both divisions who finished the day under par.
Charlie Clinefelter led the Kaukauna squad with a score of 79, putting her in 11th place. Taylor LeMire from Appleton North is tied for 12th with an 80, while Bay Port’s top scorer, Madelyn Gicius, sits tied for 33rd place after scoring 86.
In Division 2, Spooner leads the pack with a team total of 362, followed by Edgewood at 376, and Catholic Memorial with 389. Seymour came in fourth with a score of 400, and Freedom is currently sixth with 431.
Individually for Division 2, Addison Kofal of Saint Croix Central shot a score of 75, leading the division by one stroke over Belle Kongshaug of Colfax/Elk Mound. Morgan Lewis from Seymour shot 91 and is in a tie for 10th place, while Taylor Miller of Oconto Falls is right behind her in 12th place with a score of 92.
As the tournament continues, all eyes will be on the players as they try to catch up and challenge the leaders. The final results will determine who advances, and it’s shaping up to be an exciting finish!
