Tributes Paid to Beloved Community Members in Lexington

Lexington is in mourning as two cherished members of our community, Margaret Louise Roberson and Brandi Lee Owensby, have passed away. Their lives touched many, and their legacies will surely live on in the hearts of those who knew them.

Remembering Margaret Louise Roberson

At the age of 75, Margaret Louise Roberson took her final bow on January 18, 2025. Born in Union, South Carolina, Margaret was the daughter of the late Rudolph Henry and Betty Jean Kendrick Lawhorne. She leaves behind a loving family and a trail of wonderful memories for those who had the joy of knowing her.

A funeral service celebrating Margaret’s life will be held on January 23, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Barr-Price Funeral Home in Lexington. Following the service, Margaret will be laid to rest at Celestial Memorial Gardens. Friends and family are invited to gather an hour prior to the service to share their fond memories and support one another during this difficult time.

Margaret is survived by her devoted husband, Don A. Roberson, son Dennis William Moncrief (and wife Barbara), daughter Betty “Rennie” Roberson (and husband Danny), and a wonderful crew of six grandchildren. Margaret brought light and joy to her family, and her spirit will forever be cherished.

In lieu of flowers, Margaret’s family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the American Lung Association in Albany, NY. Her legacy of kindness and love will help others even in her absence.

Honoring Brandi Lee Owensby

The community was shocked to learn of the sudden passing of Brandi Lee Owensby, aged 40, who left us on January 12, 2025. Brandi was the inspiring wife of William Reeder “Will” Owensby and a loving mother to their daughter, Aurora Joy “Rori” Owensby.

Born on September 16, 1984, in Steuben County, New York, Brandi was the daughter of Helen Riley (and John) of Chesapeake, Virginia, and Mike Gettings (and Tina) from Prattsburgh, NY. She graduated from Prattsburgh Central School and later earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Education from Winthrop University. Her passion for education didn’t stop there; she also held a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of South Carolina.

Brandi dedicated her career to nurturing young talent as the Theatre Teacher and Director at White Knoll High School since 2008. Her creative spirit and dedication to the arts were evident through her published work, “Know Your Role,”, which has been performed over 60 times around the globe. She was also an active member of St. Simon St. Jude Episcopal Church in Irmo, where she built lasting connections within the community.

To honor Brandi’s remarkable life, funeral services will be held on January 18, 2024, at 2:00 PM at St. Simon St. Jude Episcopal Church, with the service being live-streamed for those who cannot attend in person. A visitation is planned for January 17, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the White Knoll High School Performing Arts Center. Attendees are encouraged to wear purple, a color that Brandi loved and that symbolizes creativity.

In memory of Brandi, donations can be made to the Palmetto Dramatic Association or through a GoFundMe set up to secure Aurora’s educational future. Brandi’s influence in her daughter’s life and those of her students will continue to shine bright.

Both Margaret and Brandi will be deeply missed, and their contributions to our lives will never be forgotten. Their legacies will remain alive in the hearts and memories of their loved ones.
