Elementary Science Fair Winners Show Off Their Ingenuity
Our youngest science aficionados kicked things off with the Elementary (5th Grade) Science Fair. The competition was fierce, but a few standout projects took home some shiny awards!
- Math/Engineering: First Place was awarded to Evan Yancey-Jones from Harbison West Elementary for his brilliant project!
- Earth/Environmental Science: Teaming up for first place were Macallister Alspach, Aubreigh Buckingham, and Caroline Pressley, all from Chapin Intermediate.
- Life Science: Lillian Chen of Harbison West Elementary snagged the top spot, while Montrell Felder, Maddy Harley, and Sela Smith-Galloway from Dutch Fork Elementary took second place.
- Physical Science: First place was claimed by Alaina Dickerson from Harbison West Elementary. The Chapin Intermediate team of Zeus Chung, Lewis Hardison, Cyrus Ranieri, and McKinley Novak claimed the second prize.

- Math/Engineering: First Place went to the dynamic team of Milly Berry, Alexis Greene, Mary Mac Hood, and Aniston Hooks from Chapin Middle.
- Earth/Environmental Science and Life Science: SaiRuthvika Garapati and Scarlett Gore from Irmo Middle earned top honors.
- Physical Science: The first-place award was clinched by Rahaf Alzuabidi and Carenza Smith from Dutch Fork Middle, demonstrating their solid understanding of scientific principles.

- Math/Engineering: The first place honor went to the remarkable trio of Annabell Ashton, A’Najzah Mayers, and Madeline Touchberry from The Center and Chapin High.
- Earth/Environmental Science: Dutch Fork High’s Hunter Taylor took home the gold.
- Life Science: The winning team of Margaret Ryan Floyd, Layla Lindler, and Piper Peterson from The Center and Chapin High dazzled the judges with their project.

Additional Achievements in Our School District
The success didn’t stop at the science fairs! Richland Northeast High School’s Lillian Mirosavich earned second place in CSPAN’s StudentCam competition with her fantastic video project “Carolina Connections: Understanding Others,” bringing home a $1,500 prize!
On another sweet note, Dezyah Dewitt, a third-grade star from Cayce Elementary, took the crown for the 13th Annual Future Chefs Challenge in the Lexington Two district.
And let’s not forget about the arts! The talented Irmo High School Concert Choir serenaded the Big Apple with a performance at Carnegie Hall on March 16, 2025, showcasing the diverse talents residing in our schools!
