News Summary

The Lexington Police are seeking assistance from the community to catch a suspect involved in a copper wire theft on December 28. The thief, assisted by another individual, stole three spools of copper wire valued at $300 from a business on Industrial Boulevard. The police have urged anyone with information to contact Detective Matthews. In a separate incident, a man was arrested after stealing a patrol vehicle and leading officers on a dramatic chase, showcasing the importance of community vigilance in combating crime.

Lexington Police Need Your Help to Catch a Copper Wire Thief!

Hey there, Lexington! We have a story that calls for the community’s sharp eyes and quick assistance. The Lexington Police are on the lookout for a suspect involved in a rather sneaky theft that took place on December 28 in the early hours of the morning. This isn’t just your run-of-the-mill petty theft; this was a heist involving some valuable copper wire!

What Happened?

The incident went down at a business on Industrial Boulevard, specifically in the 400 block area. Is it just me, or does using a ladder to sneak over a fence sound like something straight out of a heist movie? Well, that’s exactly what this clever thief did. The suspect climbed over the fence and entered the business, where they made off with three spools of copper wire valued at a whopping $300! But wait, there’s more. This wasn’t a solo adventure – another individual was seen helping the suspect during the daring fence-hop.

Getting Caught!

As luck would have it, the business security team showed up just in time! Both suspects quickly took off in the other direction. You’d think they would have had an escape plan, right? Believe it or not, some of the stolen copper wire was later found nearby where they fled. Talk about a close call!

How You Can Help

The police have kindly asked anyone who might have clues about the suspects to step forward. If you have any information, you can get in touch with Detective Matthews at 803-358-7262 or shoot an email to Jmatthews@lexsc.gov. Every little bit helps, and your tips could bring these crafty thieves to justice!

In Another Crazy Incident: Car Thief Caught After Wild Chase

But that’s not all – Lexington has been buzzing with more crime news! In a separate incident, a man named Kevin Romero had quite the day when he decided to steal a patrol vehicle belonging to a Lexington County deputy. This started off as a routine call for deputies responding to a civil dispute on Augusta Road. It seemed pretty calm until it wasn’t!

What Went Down?

When deputies arrived, they found Romero holding a bat, which he dropped after being told multiple times. But that just escalated things. He claimed to have a knife in his pocket, which, needless to say, raised the stakes. The deputy managed to retrieve it, but before anyone knew it, a struggle broke out.

The Great Getaway

You’d think it would end there, right? Wrong! The struggle moved toward the deputy’s patrol car, and before anyone could react, Romero hopped inside and took off! At this point, the deputy was left scrambling to call for backup and deploy a Taser. It turned into a chase, with a good Samaritan stepping in to help follow Romero’s escape. What a twist!

Caught and Charged

Authorities pursued him until he crashed on Interstate Highway 20 near mile marker five. Talk about a dramatic ending! Romero was taken into custody right after his messy exit. He now faces charges of grand larceny, failure to stop for blue lights, and reckless driving. Who knows what other charges might come his way after this wild ride.

Why Your Community Matters

Both of these incidents show how important it is to work together to keep Lexington safe. With the help of the public and law enforcement, we can make a difference out there. If you see something, say something. Whether it’s a suspicious character sneaking around or someone acting up in the neighborhood, don’t hesitate to reach out for help.

So, put on your detective hats, Lexington. Let’s keep our community safe and sound!
