Summary:

In a tragic mishap that took place yesterday, a multi-vehicle collision on the I-20 highway near the 61-mile marker resulted in one fatality. Coroner Margaret Fisher of Lexington County confirmed the victim as 30-year old Augusta resident, Andre Tyrone Eason. An ongoing investigation by both the Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol is currently underway.

Details of the Incident:

The multi-vehicle collision reportedly happened around 9:45 a.m. yesterday. Andre Tyrone Eason’s vehicle had become immobilized on the highway after the enclosed trailer he was towing got detached from his truck. While trying to reattach the trailer with the help of another person, a passing vehicle struck the loose trailer, which then hit Eason. The incident led to Eason’s immediate death on the scene.

Authorities Continue Investigation:

Coroner Margaret Fisher advised that despite the initial findings, the precise cause and circumstances of the collision are still under investigation. Both the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Lexington County Coroner’s Office are working together to assemble a comprehensive incident report. Given the complex nature of multi-vehicle accidents, it is expected to take some time before a final report is issued.

Public Cooperation Requested:

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has any pertinent information to come forward. Witnesses are encouraged to contact the Patrol’s dedicated hotline number at (803) 587-3144. As always, all calls and tips will be treated confidentially.

Meanwhile, Lexington residents and visitors alike are reminded to exercise extreme caution while towing articles on major highways and to always wear a seatbelt. While unfortunate, incidents like these underscore the importance of adhering to all safety rules and regulations when on the road.

Condolences Pour in for the Victim:

In the wake of Eason’s tragic death, condolences from friends, family, and the entire Lexington community continue to pour in. The loss is a stark reminder of the immediacy of life and the critical importance of road safety. Our prayers and heartfelt condolences go out to the bereaved family.
