COLUMBIA, S.C. – The City of Surprises

The charming Southern city of Columbia, S.C., known for its rich history and cultural vibrancy, is famous for yet another reason – the renowned Koger Center for the Arts. However, visitors and locals alike are in for a big surprise as the esteemed establishment is set for an extensive makeover.

Big Facelift on the Cards

Nate Terracio, the director of Koger Center, has shed light on what can be expected in the coming days. The team is embarking on an ambitious remodeling plan that will change the looks from the carpets to the emblematic red wall. But that’s not all. There’s more to the grand vision, which has been years in making and now ready to transform the Center.

Reinventing Spaces

One of the major updates involves converting a rehearsal room into the much-anticipated Black Box Theatre. Perfect for larger music events and dance performances, this new space effectively boosts the Center’s capabilities. The inaugural session has been scheduled for June 21, where the popular Mark Rapp of ColaJazz will be headlining the first performance in the new space.

A Special Night Awaits

An event titled “A Midsummer Night’s Swing” boasts the Carl Payne Big Band in the lineup, a spectacle that demanded a more expansive venue than the usual lobby. To add to the excitement, Blue Moon Ballroom will offer a dance class preceding the jazz performance, enticing the audience to take to the dance floor.

A New Functionality

The newly transformed Black Box Theatre can accommodate over 250 audiences for performances. While it doesn’t compete with the main stage at Koger Center in terms of size, it offers an intimate setting for dance companies and music events. Its designing fully supports the audience to immerse in the performances and participate actively.

Joining the Evolution

Revamping the old and creating new spaces for the arts is part of Columbia’s continued evolution. Staying true to its tagline – The City of Surprises, the vibrant city continues its legacy of offering transformative experiences to both its residents and visitors alike.
