Knoxville, Tenn. – Men’s Tennis Falls to No. 8 Tennessee
No. 20 South Carolina men’s tennis faced a tough challenge as they fell to No. 8 Tennessee in Knoxville on Sunday. The Gamecocks were missing their No. 2 man, Casey Hoole, who was out due to injury.
Doubles Play
In doubles play, the Gamecocks stuck with their lineup from the previous match against Georgia. However, the familiarity did not translate into a point for the team. The Volunteers were able to secure wins on the top two courts, but the freshman pair of Sean Daryabeigi and Jelani Sarr provided a bright spot with a 6-3 victory at the No. 3 position.
Singles Play
As the teams transitioned to singles play, the momentum stayed with the home team as Tennessee took early leads on four courts. The Volunteers went on to clinch the match with victories on Courts 6, 2, and 5. At the top of the lineup, No. 21 Toby Samuel split sets with No. 5 Johannus Monday and had a lead in the third set before play was suspended.
Next Matches
The men’s tennis team will now return home to host Kentucky and Vanderbilt this Friday and Sunday. The upcoming matches are scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Friday and noon on Sunday.
