Irmo Updates Zoning Guidelines
Less Restrictive Zoning Guidelines Introduced in Irmo
Zoning guidelines in the Irmo area are set to become less restrictive following the approval of a new ordinance amendment at the recent council meeting on February 20.
The amendment allows for the establishment of “negotiated zoning districts,” which will provide the planning commission with greater flexibility in regulating property development. Town officials have identified current zoning requirements, particularly those related to “patio homes,” as overly restrictive.
The council unanimously approved the amendment, signaling a shift towards more adaptable zoning regulations in the Irmo community.
Formation of Events Committee
In addition to the zoning changes, the council also passed a first-reading approval for an ordinance that will establish an “Events Committee.” This committee will advise the council on the growing number of entertainment events and activities taking place in Irmo.
The move comes in response to the increasing demand for community events and the need for strategic planning to accommodate these activities. The council’s Events Chairman, George Frazier, expressed support for the new committee.
