This Friday night, Iowa came alive with an intense round of high school football matches as teams competed in the final games of the regular season for Classes 5A, 4A, and 3A. Additionally, first-round playoff games took place in the lower classes: 2A, 1A, A, and 8-player. By the end of the night, players, coaches, and fans were eagerly waiting for the announcement of playoff matchups.
In one of the thrilling matchups, Norwalk clinched a tight victory over Glenwood, finishing the game with a score of 29-26. Meanwhile, Lewis Central dominated Dallas Center-Grimes with a staggering score of 49-8, showcasing their strong performance. In another major game, Waukee Northwest easily defeated Ames 50-6, maintaining their powerful record.
Other scores from around the state included Pleasant Valley beating Linn-Mar 35-21 and Waterloo West edging out Ottumwa 28-21. Benton earned a solid 21-0 win against Williamsburg, while MOC-Floyd Valley claimed a 49-21 victory against Sioux City Heelan.
In playoff action, Cedar Rapids Prairie held off Iowa City West, winning 28-21, and PCM finished strong with a 41-19 win over Des Moines Christian. Carlisle managed a close win against Bondurant-Farrar, finishing the game 21-14.
The Iowa High School Athletic Association is expected to announce the round-of-16 matchups at approximately 10 a.m. Saturday, a highly anticipated reveal after an exciting night of football.
