Can you believe it’s that time of year again? The holiday season is just around the corner, and for many families in Columbia, that means it’s time to start thinking about dinner tables filled with delicious food and loving memories. But for some families in our area, this time of year can be a bit tough—especially when it comes to putting food on the table for holiday meals. That’s where local organizations step in to spread some joy and lend a helping hand!

Lucky for those in the Columbia area, there are numerous food giveaways coming up that are sure to help families in need. So, if you or someone you know could use a helping hand this holiday season, mark your calendars and pay attention! Here’s a handy list of food giveaways happening in the Midlands area, but remember, supplies are limited, and they are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Mark Your Calendars!

  • Tuesday, November 19: Get in the Thanksgiving spirit with the Richland County Recreation Commission (RCRC) Give Thanks Giveaway drive-through starting at 2 p.m. Head over to the Garners Ferry Sports Complex located at 8620 Garners Ferry Rd. in Hopkins.
  • Wednesday, November 20: Don’t miss the special Bountiful Harvest event hosted by Serve & Connect. They will be handing out boxes of holiday groceries and frozen chicken, along with a scrumptious catered meal from Hudson’s Smokehouse, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Icehouse Pavilion in downtown Lexington!
  • Thursday, November 21: Another day for the RCRC Give Thanks Giveaway! Make your way to St. Andrews Park at 920 Beatty Rd. when the giveaway starts at 2 p.m.
  • Saturday, November 23: Need food for the holiday season? The RCRC’s Give Thanks Giveaway drive-through is back at 10 a.m., this time at Crane Creek Gymnasium, located at 7405-B Fairfield Rd. in Columbia.
  • Sunday, November 24: Teaming up with Molina Healthcare of South Carolina, Serve & Connect will offer nonperishable holiday food boxes and turkeys while supplies last, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at their headquarters at 8131 Brookfield Rd.
  • Monday, November 25: Join in on the fun at the Feed the Families Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway hosted by Victory Promotions and Palmetto Talent Agency! Head to SPACE 803 at 2732 Decker Blvd., where the event runs from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, November 26: Grab your car and head to Toliver’s Mane Event for a drive-thru Turkey Giveaway starting at 10 a.m. One turkey per vehicle until supplies last! The address is 6102 North Main St.
  • Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 28: The Chappelle Memorial AME Church is hosting a Community Outreach Dinner in honor of the late Edith General. Join them for a meal available either through walk-in or drive-through options from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1101 Pine St.
