In a busy night of high school volleyball action, several teams showcased their skills as the competition heated up in the regional playoffs. Here’s a recap of the games played on Wednesday, October 30.

Century Knights Dominate Francis Scott Key

The Century Knights hosted the Francis Scott Key Eagles in a Class 2A regional quarterfinal and secured a strong victory, winning in straight sets at 25-10, 25-16, and 25-12. The Knights were led by the trio of Gabby Zajaczkowski, Abhi Yadlapalli, and Hannah Heffernan, who each delivered seven kills. Corinne Zepp excelled defensively with 16 digs and nine aces, while Reese Gordon contributed 14 assists, and Stephanie Villanueva provided 12.

Carver A&T Takes Close Match Against Pikesville

The Carver A&T Wildcats triumphed over the Pikesville Panthers in a thrilling five-set battle in the Class 1A division, finishing with scores of 23-25, 25-14, 25-16, 19-25, and 15-10.

Dominant Performance by Annapolis Panthers

The Annapolis Panthers showcased their strength against the Suitland Rams, winning decisively with scores of 25-3, 25-12, and 25-9. Leading the charge were Tessa Cohen, McHale Hughes, who recorded four aces and 11 assists, Lindsay Lyman with seven kills, along with Carolin Heyder.

Liberty and Manchester Valley Victorious

The Liberty Lions defeated the Catoctin Cougars in a tight match, winning 25-19, 25-23, and 25-19. Jasmine Bada shone with five kills and four aces. In another exciting matchup, the Manchester Valley Mavericks overcame the Westminster Owls in a four-set match, winning 25-27, 25-23, 25-21, and 25-11, led by Emily Troy’s 23 kills.

Fallston and Edgewood Advance

The Fallston Cougars managed to beat the North East Indians 3-1, while Edgewood advanced with a close 3-1 win over Aberdeen. Mo Rohner was a standout for Edgewood with five blocks.

Marriotts Ridge and Severn’s Strong Performances

In the 3A regional quarterfinals, the Marriotts Ridge Mustangs secured a convincing win over the Chesapeake, finishing the match with a score of 25-17, 25-18, and 25-6. The Severn Admirals also advanced to the IAAM B Conference final after defeating Mount de Sales with a score of 5-2.

South River Clinches Regional Title

Lastly, the South River Seahawks celebrated claiming their second consecutive 3A East Region I title after a 4-1 victory against J.M. Bennett. Goals were scored by Daniel Rodriguez, Lucas Gardeniers, Jacob Sullivan, and Jeffrey Serrano, showing their strength as a solid team.

These exciting games highlight the competitive spirit and talent found within high school sports. As the season progresses, teams will look to build on these performances moving deeper into the playoffs.
