Wilton Dominates Against Glastonbury; High School Sports Highlights from Saturday
In Wilton, the high school field hockey team put on a show with a decisive victory over Glastonbury, winning 7-1. The standout player was Sabrina Sharfuddin, who netted two goals and assisted on two others, helping her team secure the win. Wilton players Clara Fielden, Mary Sylvester, Bridget Grosso, Casey O’Connor, and Liza Fogelson each contributed a goal as well. For Glastonbury, Zoe White scored the lone goal. In total, Wilton’s defense only allowed five shots on goal, with goalkeepers Mary Schwartz and Ava Salvino combining for five saves. Both teams hold impressive records, sitting at 9-1.
In another exciting game, Branford edged out New Canaan 2-1 in a thrilling overtime match. Aliza Giordano was the hero of the hour, scoring the game-winning goal with just 6:29 left in overtime. Cara Passios managed to score for New Canaan, while Branford’s goalkeeper Lilly Panuccio made four saves.
Hamden also had a strong showing, defeating Sheehan 5-0. Ava Martin and Jozie Becker both had standout performances, contributing several goals along with Giada Broccoli. The Hamden goalkeeper Eramo didn’t have to make any saves, while Sheehan’s goalkeeper Hemstock managed to make 11 saves.
In soccer, Seymour won against Torrington 3-0, with Joey Carrafiello scoring twice. Trumbull had a narrow victory over Staples, winning 1-0 with a goal from Mateus Almeida. Hopkins dominated Canterbury 8-0 in another lopsided match.
Other notable scores included Waterford taking down NFA 5-0, while Bethel triumphed against New Milford with a similar scoreline of 5-0. The bustling high school sports scene continues to provide thrilling moments as teams fight for their place in the standings.
