High School Sports Roundup: Friday’s Action in Lyman Hall and Beyond

In a thrilling Friday of high school sports, teams across the region showcased their skills in various playoff matches. In Lyman Hall, the girls’ soccer team clinched an impressive victory against Mercy with a score of 3-1. Lyman Hall’s goals came from Ella Cramner, Mattingly Andrews, and Kaylin Findley, while Mercy’s lone goal was scored by Catalina Koji. This win improved Lyman Hall’s record to 4-12 and left Mercy at 2-13-1.

In another intense game, the FCIAC Quarterfinal saw Brien McMahon battle it out with Fairfield Ludlowe. The match ended in a 1-1 tie, leading to a thrilling penalty kick shootout where McMahon triumphed 3-2. Meanwhile, Hopkins faced Cheshire Academy and dominated with a convincing score of 3-0, propelled by goals from Tommy Pont Strong, Sean Studley, and Nate Huang.

The NVL Quarterfinal featured a nail-biting match between Seymour and Ansonia, which ended scoreless at 0-0 after regulation. Seymour advanced by winning in the penalty kick tiebreaker 3-1. Morgan also had a strong performance, winning against Haddam-Killingworth 3-0. The goals came from Kate Gardner, Sadie Passante, and a penalty kick from Rachel Spaziano.

On the volleyball court, Cheshire had an excellent showing in the SCC First Round, defeating Sheehan 3-0 with standout performances from Eva Catalanotto, Kat Pawlak, and Maeve Zbikowski. Trumbull also made a statement with a 3-0 win over Westhill, fueled by Adriana Castillo’s 12 kills.

Wolcott Tech capped off a successful day of competition with a strong 3-0 victory over Terryville, led by Melissa Muscaro with 17 assists and 9 digs.

The excitement of high school sports continues to keep fans on the edge of their seats as teams strive for glory in the playoffs.
