High School Football Roundup: Week 8 Highlights

High School Football Update: Week 8 Highlights from Southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky

This past weekend, high school football in Cincinnati saw some exciting matchups as the regular season approaches its conclusion. With the playoff race in both Ohio and Kentucky taking shape, here are some key highlights and performances from Week 8.

In Division I, both Moeller and Winton Woods have clinched top-eight seeds in Region 4, ensuring themselves at least one home playoff game. Last year, the Crusaders made it to the state semifinals despite being the No. 4 seed. The Warriors, now in DI, earned the No. 6 seed in DII last year.

Anderson, which reached the DII state semifinals in 2023, is also looking strong with a secured top-eight seed. The Raptors are in pursuit of their second straight No. 1 seed in Region 8. Overall, a remarkable 32 games involving teams from Southwest Ohio, particularly in the Greater Miami Conference and Southern Buckeye Conference, were decided by a margin of 20 points or more.

The Bombers achieved a narrow 9-0 victory over La Salle despite a season filled with high-scoring matchups. A 28-yard field goal by Owen Davidson in the second quarter set up the game’s only touchdown, thrown by Chase Herbstreit to Cameron Taylor.

Batavia improved to 7-1 this season after a 38-0 victory against New Richmond. The Bulldogs are currently tied at the top of Southern Buckeye Athletic & Academic Conference-American Division alongside Clinton-Massie. Both teams are set to face off next week.

The Lions got a critical win in their league opener, edging out Shroder in a tight 6-0 encounter. Meanwhile, the Eagles claimed a dominating 35-14 victory over Roger Bacon, racking up an impressive 428 yards of offense.

Mason senior had a standout performance, running for 194 yards and scoring two touchdowns in a 31-0 rout of Colerain. His scores, magnificent 91 and 45-yard runs, showcased his incredible speed and skill.

As the teams prepare for the playoffs, the competition is heating up in both Ohio and Kentucky. With numerous teams making strong statements this week, fans can expect more thrilling high school football action in the coming weeks.
