Last week was an exciting time for high school sports across the area, with several standout performances on the field.
In football, CBA took the spotlight with a decisive 47-6 victory over Niskayuna. Quarterback Archie Jones threw for 364 yards and four touchdowns, while also adding two rushing touchdowns to his impressive stats. His teammate Lucius Anderson had a fantastic day receiving, catching six passes for 199 yards and scoring three touchdowns.
The Shaker Blue Bison also found success, beating Averill Park 26-14, with Jake Smith scoring on an 85-yard run and a 58-yard reception. Nick Graziano contributed with a touchdown run and reception in that same match.
In other football action, Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake defeated Bethlehem 44-20, thanks to DJ Mosher, who rushed for three touchdowns. Meanwhile, Queensbury’s quarterback Zavry Ward became the program’s all-time leading passer with a performance 236 yards and two touchdowns.
The soccer field brought good news as well. The Mechanicville girls’ team had a remarkable showing. Maddy Hopeck and Gianna Pitts each scored three goals in a 10-0 win against Hoosick Falls. On the boys’ side, Connor Byrnes netted four goals as the Schalmont Sabres triumphed over Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk 5-0.
This week’s upcoming games are set to keep the excitement rolling. Notable matchups include CBA visiting Shaker on Friday at 7 p.m. and a showdown between Columbia and Bethlehem also scheduled for Friday evening.
