High School Sports Roundup: Top Performers Shine
Last week in high school sports, athletes from various schools showcased impressive skills and teamwork. The Shaker Blue Bison enjoyed a standout moment when senior Jake Smith scored two touchdowns in the second quarter against Guilderland, including a spectacular 51-yard punt return. Shaker secured a solid victory, finishing the game at 34-6.
Meanwhile, the Columbia Blue Devils had their own thrilling victory as senior quarterback Dylan Maychack broke a tight game wide open with a remarkable 99-yard touchdown run, leading his team past La Salle with a score of 28-12.
Over at Averill Park, junior Jacob Phelps demonstrated his running prowess, carrying the ball seven times for an impressive 131 yards and three first-half touchdowns in a 30-12 win against Amsterdam. The Bethlehem Eagles were also victorious, thanks to Jay Felio who rushed for 144 yards and scored four touchdowns against Troy, resulting in a 27-8 game.
In a thrilling matchup, Jordan Baker from Glens Falls helped his team achieve a dominant 40-7 win over Hoosick Falls/Tamarac, running for 198 yards and scoring three touchdowns. Not far behind, Le’Kye Ford from Lansingburgh impressed fans with 106 rushing yards and four touchdowns, while also leading his team in tackles for a close 29-26 victory over Green Tech.
On the soccer field, Owen Bradt from Shaker made headlines by scoring two goals and providing an assist in a 4-0 win against Middletown, which made him the program’s all-time leading scorer.
