High School Sports Roundup from Various Cities
Friday evening was action-packed as high school sports teams across the region took to their respective fields and courts for intense competition.
In Westport, the Staples boys’ soccer team decisively defeated Danbury with a score of 11-1. The team showed great cooperation on the field, making it a standout performance. Meanwhile, in New Haven, Hopkins shutout Hamden Hall 6-0, with Munib Kassem and Eric Roberts each scoring two goals.
Elsewhere, Northwest Catholic claimed a 1-0 victory over Avon thanks to a goal from Samantha Casper, keeping their record strong at 8-2-3. Seymour also brought home a solid win against Oxford, pitching a 3-0 shutout, with Joey Carrafiello scoring twice.
On the girls’ side, the Mercy squad continued their remarkable season, getting the better of Cheshire 4-2, improving their record to 13-0-1. In a thrilling match at Somers, the home team triumphed over Tolland 4-2, marking Avery D’Amour’s milestone of scoring her 50th and 51st career goals.
In the volleyball scene, Hamden defeated Killingly with a score of 3-1, thanks to strong performances from Bella Green and Felicity Potkay. In a close match, Trumbull edged out Staples 3-2 in an exciting five-set contest, with Paulina Bykowski making a significant impact with 10 kills and 16 digs.
