City High Schools Gear Up for Weekend Basketball Action
The local high schools showcased some exciting basketball matches on Friday, November 29, 2024, as teams across various tournaments battled for supremacy. The Armstrong tournament saw Deer Lakes cruise past River Valley with a score of 61 to 27, while Highlands just managed to edge out Armstrong in a close contest, finishing 55 to 49.
In the Ellwood City tournament, Blackhawk dominated Rochester with a score of 67 to 34, and Union pulled off a thrilling victory against Ellwood City, winning 64 to 58. Meanwhile, the Geneva College/Lincoln Park tournament featured Ambridge narrowly defeating Beaver Falls by a score of 45 to 40, and East Liverpool squeaked by Lincoln Park with a 51 to 47 win.
Other notable results included a lopsided victory for Latrobe over Mt. Pleasant, finishing 66 to 25. Richland had a close game, finally winning against Windber 51 to 48. In the Laurel tournament, Riverside secured a solid win over Sharpsville (52-37), while Mercer showed their strength with a convincing 69 to 38 victory over Perry Traditional Academy.
As for the McGuffey tournament, Chartiers-Houston triumphed easily over Frazier, scoring 53 to 29, whereas McGuffey defeated Avella 48 to 34. The MVI Shootout Classic was also full of action, with Serra Catholic rolling past Brownsville 76 to 38 and Ringgold taking down Charleroi 61 to 46.
Fans eagerly look forward to Saturday’s games, with high stakes as teams vie for a chance to advance. The local talent is on display as these young athletes give their all to bring home victories for their schools.
