Bel Air – On Wednesday, October 23rd, the high school varsity teams put on quite a show during several playoff matches across various sports. Here’s a recap of the day’s exciting events.
The defending Class 1A state champion Harford Tech Cobras kicked off their playoff run with a commanding 8-0 victory over Joppatowne. Brody Smith and Colby Golding each scored two goals. Other contributors included Brayden Chryst, Zach Lane, Reese Topfer, and Robert Brzezinski, who all added to the scoreline, while Brzezinski and Lane secured two assists each.
In another match, Patterson Mill displayed an impressive offense, overwhelming Frederick Douglass with a 12-0 win. Carson Harting and Chandler Williams each scored a pair of goals, while Phil Tolliver, Nate Kiefer, and others contributed to the scoring spree.
The Bel Air Bobcats also shone bright, sealing a 7-0 triumph over Digital Harbor. Star player Mason Smedley recorded a hat trick in the game, with Blake Stallard not far behind, adding a goal and two assists.
In the 2A East Region I opener, Fallston Cougars edged past North Harford with a 2-1 win, thanks to second-half goals from Levi Tanguay and Ariya Khairghadam, assisted expertly by Mason Judd.
A monumental shutout occurred when Broadneck crushed Suitland 10-0. Raef Barradel and Jaydyn Lowe each contributed two goals as they raced to an 8-0 lead in the first half.
On the girls’ side, Glenelg and Westminster both dominated their matches, winning decisively with scores of 9-0 each, showcasing a variety of scorers and offensive strategies. Grace Sung and Jennifer Vasquez highlighted their team’s efforts with standout performances.
Finally, Patterson Mill’s volleyball team bested Joppatowne with a clean sweep, going 3-0. The strong performance from Aidan Mackowiak, who posted 16 kills, led the Huskies to victory.
With numerous stellar performances throughout the region, these teams are off to an exciting start in their playoff journeys. Fans are eagerly waiting to see how the rest of the playoffs unfold!
