High School Sports Roundup from Connecticut
Connecticut’s high school sports scene saw some exciting action last Friday, with various teams competing in crucial matchups across different sports. Highlights from the games are as follows:
Soccer Highlights
The girls’ soccer team from Lewis Mills achieved a resounding victory over Middletown, winning 5-1. Leah Mischke, Riley Mills, Gemma Goshdigian, and Lily Castle (who scored twice) were notable goal scorers for Mills. Middletown managed a goal from Yori Perry-Rice, but it wasn’t enough to turn the tide. On the defensive side, Mills goalkeeper Anna Henry recorded 7 saves, contributing significantly to the win.
In another girls’ soccer contest, Wolcott Tech triumphed over Wilcox Tech with a score of 5-3. Senior Kendall Contadini stood out by netting four goals, including one from the penalty spot, and providing an assist. Freshman Allisen Pleil also contributed with a goal and an assist, while junior goalie Meghan McKearney made 13 crucial saves to help her team secure the victory.
Football Action
Shifting gears to the football field, New Canaan faced Trumbull in an FCIAC quarterfinal, where the former came out on top with a score of 3-1. Sydney Patten scored two goals, while the Trumbull team had a tough time containing New Canaan’s attack.
Additionally, Seymour pulled off a solid win against Torrington, with a final score of 2-0. Joey Carrafiello scored for Seymour, supported by assists from Brayden Webb and Oscar Scislaw. Goalkeeper Alex Porczynski made 7 saves to help preserve the clean sheet.
Volleyball Matches
In the world of volleyball, Southington was dominant against Guilford, winning decisively 3-0 with scores of 25-10, 25-20, and 25-12. The team displayed excellent teamwork and skill throughout the match.
Meanwhile, the match between RHAM and Cheshire showcased some thrilling plays, with RHAM edging out Cheshire with a final set score of 3-1. Notably, Meredith Weir and Abby Simao from RHAM delivered impressive performances, leading their team to victory.
