The past week in high school sports saw some exciting performances from athletes across various sports. Here’s a look at the top performers who made headlines.
Football Highlights
In the Class AA sectionals, Archie Jones from CBA rushed for two touchdowns and threw for another, guiding his team to a victory over Saratoga Springs. Meanwhile, Shaker’s junior quarterback, Marcus Snipes, helped his team edge out Shenendehowa with a solid performance that included a passing and a rushing touchdown.
Shenendehowa had its own standout in Ihsann Alozie, who rushed for 147 yards and contributed two touchdowns, along with a 40-yard interception return for a touchdown. In a thrilling game, Colonie’s Steven Thomas completed 19 of 30 passes for 294 yards and four touchdowns, rallying his team from a 16-0 deficit to beat Bethlehem 33-29.
Soccer Standouts
On the soccer field, Kofi Sarfoh from Shaker shined, scoring key goals in a 3-1 win against Guilderland to claim the Section II Class AAA title. The team also had a historic moment, as they reached the state semifinals for the first time in school history.
In girls’ soccer, Gianna Pitts from Mechanicville netted three goals to lead her team to a 4-0 win against Northeastern Clinton in the Class B regional.
Cross Country Achievements
The cross country scene was bustling with talent as Owen Conley from Colonie took home the Section II Class A title with a time of 15:21. Other notable performances came from Layla Bhusri of Shenendehowa, who claimed the Class A title with a time of 17:38.2, and Carter Flowers from Schalmont, who won the Class C sectional race.
