This week’s high school football games in and around Kansas City showed plenty of energy, especially as teams head towards the playoffs. From the Kansas side of the line to Missouri, schools battled it out for crucial wins.
In Class 6A, Gardner Edgerton took down Blue Valley Northwest with a strong score of 44-29. Meanwhile, Blue Valley West showed its strength against Shawnee Mission Northwest, winning 35-20. Derby dominated Wichita East by a wide margin of 63-28, and Manhattan finished off Wichita Northwest with a score of 49-28.
Moving to Class 5A, St. Thomas Aquinas emerged victorious over Mill Valley, winning 23-22 in a close match. St. James Academy showed no mercy against Blue Valley North, cruising to a 45-0 victory. Hays blanked Hutchinson with a 28-0 win, while Eisenhower powered through Topeka Seaman, finishing 44-14.
In Class 4A, there were some impressive wins as well. Tonganoxie defeated Lansing 21-7, and Bishop Miege came out strong against Chanute with a score of 37-14. Buhler and Wamego matched up in a hard-fought game, ending in a 28-14 win for Buhler. Andover Central produced a big win over Wellington, finishing at 58-13.
Class 3A brought excitement too, as Wellsville topped Prairie View 35-14 and Topeka Hayden crushed Perry-Lecompton with an impressive score of 56-6. Andale maintained its strong season with a victory over Cheney, winning 52-12.
In the smaller classes, Council Grove secured a win over Humboldt in Class 2A with a score of 31-8, while in Class 1A, Rossville narrowly beat Jackson Heights 38-34. In 8-man Division I, Central Plains claimed victory over Little River 38-32, and in Division II, Frankfort won against Burlingame with a score of 46-38.
Overall, the action this week in Kansas City has set the stage for an exciting playoff season ahead. Teams continue to work hard, showcasing their talent on the field as they seek to advance further in the postseason.
