This past week, Cincinnati saw some thrilling high school football action as local teams rounded out their seasons. While Kentucky teams have one more week before their postseason kicks off, schools in Ohio and Indiana are already deep into their playoff games.
One standout performance came from Lakota West, who shut out the Walnut Hills Eagles with a dominating score of 49-0. The Firebirds’ defense was particularly impressive, allowing a mere 20 total yards for their opponents, including a staggering -13 yards on the ground. This victory marked the team’s ninth win of the season, with half of those wins coming by way of shutout. Offensively, Lakota West racked up 277 rushing yards, led by Jackson Smith with 63 yards and Kenyon Norman close behind with 61 yards, both contributing to the scoreline.
Over in the matchup between Lakota East and West Clermont, the Thunderhawks fought hard to secure a 42-28 victory. This game featured explosive plays from junior Ryder Hooks, who set a career high with 272 rushing yards and four touchdowns. The game was competitive, but Lakota East pulled away with a strong second half performance.
Meanwhile, Newport capped off their regular season with a solid 37-0 win against Holy Cross, thanks to a strong outing from quarterback Kyle Lee, who threw for four touchdowns. This win also marked the Wildcats’ third shutout of the season, showcasing their strong defense.
On the other side of town, Covington Catholic faced Campbell County and managed to take a big early lead, finishing with a score of 42-28. Cob Cath quarterback Cash Harney was remarkable, scoring two rushing touchdowns while also throwing for two more. Campbell County made a valiant effort in the second half, scoring 28 points, but it wasn’t enough to recover from the first-half deficit.
As playoffs continue, local teams will look to build on their recent successes. Fans can stay updated with live scoring updates and coverage from the local games as the action unfolds in the coming weeks.
