Local High School Basketball Highlights
Danbury emerged victorious against Hamden with a score of 63 to 57 in a closely contested game. Danbury managed to grab an early lead with a strong first quarter, scoring 15 points compared to Hamden’s 11. The teams battled back and forth with Hamden putting up a great fight, especially in the second quarter where they tallied 23 points. However, Danbury held on to secure the win, propelled by Khalil Tolliver’s impressive 17 points and Trenton Fraser’s 13 points. James Jackson led Hamden with 13 points.
In another thrilling matchup, Darien pulled off a narrow victory over Guilford, with a final score of 68 to 64. Guilford’s Noah Young shined with a tremendous 33 points, but it wasn’t enough as Darien’s Jake Blythe scored 24 points, securing the win for his team.
Meanwhile, E.O. Smith defeated Avon 70 to 62. Avon had a strong start in the second with 21 points, but E.O. Smith maintained their strong offensive presence throughout the game, led by Cameron Belanger’s impressive 25 points.
Lyman Hall had a solid win against Wilcox Tech, finishing 61 to 31. Lyman Hall’s balanced attack was evident, with Darrell Gratic scoring 18 points. On the other side, Azari Yearwood led Wilcox Tech with 10 points.
Seymour dominated their game against Derby, winning decisively with a score of 82 to 20. Seymour’s Joey Carrafiello led the scoring surge with 30 points, while Derby struggled to find an offensive rhythm.
In a tight game, Staples managed to edge past Xavier 73 to 61. Staples’ Dhilan Lowman turned in a remarkable performance, scoring 21 points, while Elias Moore led Xavier with 18.
Finally, in the girls’ games, Hamden showcased a strong performance with a win over Lauralton Hall, finishing 58 to 30. Aunee Brookshire stood out with a double-double of 11 points and 15 rebounds for Hamden.
