Born on August 29, 1932, to Edward Lee and Ella Carrie Lindler, George was the youngest of 13 children raised on a farm in Chapin. He graduated from Chapin High School, where he was a prominent member of the school’s first-ever football team, showcasing his early love for sports.

Following his high school years, Lindler served in the U.S. Army for two decades. His military career was marked by valor and sacrifice, earning him multiple decorations, including the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during combat in the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, Lindler briefly worked for the South Carolina Highway Department before joining the U.S. Post Office, where he served until his retirement.

Throughout his life, Lindler was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his three sons: Howard Lindler and his wife Anita, Glen Lindler and his wife Cathie, and Ronnie Lindler and his wife Ginny. His legacy continues through his four grandchildren: Nathan Lindler and his partner Amelie, Zachary Lindler, Andrew Lindler, and Heidi Shoulders along with her partner Taylor, as well as his two great-grandsons, Forrest and Wynn.

George Lindler was a lifelong member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church, where his faith played a central role in his life. He was known for his passion for classic cars, particularly his treasured 1965 Mustang, and his support for Clemson sports and the Atlanta Braves. His friends and family fondly remember him as a talented handyman who could fix almost anything.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria R. Lindler, who had a significant influence on his life and values. In honoring his life, the family expresses heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home and Patriots Hospice for their compassionate care.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, August 23, at 1:00 p.m., followed by a service and burial at St. Thomas Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Thomas Lutheran Church or Richard Campbell Nursing Home to honor George Lindler’s memory.
