Columbia Celebrates as No. 23 Gamecocks Take Down Rival Tigers in 12 Innings

In a thrilling matchup, the 23rd ranked South Carolina softball team (22-7) emerged victorious over their arch-rivals, the 11th ranked Clemson Tigers (21-7), with a hard-fought 6-4 win in 12 innings on a Wednesday night clash.

Game Highlights

The battle between the two top-ranked teams was nothing short of intense, with both sides showing remarkable resilience throughout the game. The Gamecocks took the early lead, setting the tone for an action-packed encounter.

Carlie Henderson stood out with an impressive 3-for-5 performance at the plate, while Giulia Desiderio and Jen Cummings also made significant contributions, each finishing with two hits. Cummings and Riley Blampied led the charge for Carolina, collecting two RBIs each.

Outstanding Effort

Alana Vawter delivered a remarkable performance, throwing a complete game in the circle, the longest outing of her career. Vawter’s stellar display included retiring 14 in-a-row and finishing the night allowing only three earned runs on seven hits, while striking out two.

The game reached a fever pitch in the 12th inning when the Gamecocks seized their moment to shine. With exceptional teamwork and determination, Carolina secured the win with a series of well-executed plays that left the Tigers reeling.
