Gamecocks Finish 8th at NCAA Baton Rouge Regional
The University of South Carolina men’s golf team wrapped up their 2023-24 season at the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional on Wednesday, finishing in eighth place overall. The Gamecocks posted a final round score of 284 (-4) to end the tournament at 11-over par with a total of 875 over 54 holes.
Despite a strong effort, South Carolina fell just short of securing a spot in the NCAA Championship as host LSU claimed the final qualifying position. The Tigers finished at 4-over, edging out Houston and Duke.
Standout Performances
Junior Nathan Franks led the way for the Gamecocks with an impressive T-12th finish, carding a final round 66 (-6). Franks, who returned from injury for the regional, delivered a stellar performance with eight birdies before finishing at 1-under for the tournament.
Freshman Bo Carpenter also shined in his NCAA Regional debut, securing a T-15th finish at 1-over. Carpenter closed out the event with a final round 70 (-2) and showcased his potential for the future.
Redshirt sophomore Frankie Harris, a standout player throughout the spring season, capped off his year with a solid T-20th finish at 2-over. Harris recorded seven top-20 finishes during the season, highlighting his consistency.
Team Effort
The Gamecocks displayed resilience and determination throughout the regional competition, with sophomore Zach Adams contributing a final round score to the team’s effort. South Carolina’s sixth-year player Lansdon Robbins also made a noteworthy appearance in his last college round.
Tournament Summary
Top-ranked Auburn claimed victory in the regional, finishing at 21-under with a remarkable final round score of 268 (-20). Texas Tech’s Baard Skogen emerged as the individual champion at 8-under.
South Carolina’s performance in Baton Rouge marks the end of an impressive season, with the team reflecting on their achievements and looking ahead to future opportunities for success.
