Duke vs. Gamecocks basketball
The University of South Carolina softball team faced a tough challenge against host and No. 4 ranked Duke in the winner’s bracket game of the NCAA Softball Tournament – Durham Regional. Unfortunately, the Gamecocks fell short, losing to Duke 8-0 on Saturday afternoon (May 18).
The Gamecocks struggled to get their offense going throughout the game, managing only two hits against Duke’s strong pitching. Riley Blampied and Karley Shelton each recorded a hit, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Duke’s dominant performance.
Sage Mardjetko took the loss for the Gamecocks, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out five in 3 2-3 innings. Duke capitalized on their opportunities, scoring a run in the third inning, two in the fourth, and five in the sixth to secure the victory.
Despite the loss, the Gamecocks will have a chance to bounce back in an elimination game against Utah. Due to inclement weather, the game has been rescheduled for tomorrow, with the exact game time to be determined.
