For the third consecutive day, the No. 23 South Carolina softball team continued their dominant performance with a shutout victory. The Gamecocks (21-5) secured a 4-0 win over Minnesota (14-12) on Saturday night at the Garnet & Black Invitational.
Alana Vawter (7-3) delivered a stellar performance on the mound, pitching a complete game shutout. She struck out six batters, allowed only four hits, and did not concede a walk throughout the game.
Denver Bryant and Carlie Henderson were standout performers at the plate, each going 2-for-3. Bryant led the team with two RBIs, contributing significantly to the Gamecocks’ offensive success.
The Gamecocks took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning, with Riley Blampied scoring on a groundout by Jen Cummings. In the second inning, Bryant extended the lead with a timely single, bringing in two more runs.
The scoring continued in the fifth inning, as Aniyah Black and Henderson set the stage for the team to add to their lead, ultimately securing the 4-0 victory over Minnesota.
The Gamecocks will wrap up the Garnet & Black Invitational with games against NC State and Northwestern on Sunday. The first game is scheduled for 3 p.m., followed by the second game 30 minutes after the first concludes.
