Gamecocks Take Down Bulldogs in SEC Tournament Opener
The University of South Carolina’s softball team defeated Mississippi State 8-4 in their SEC Tournament opener on Wednesday night. Despite a late start, the 11th seeded Gamecocks managed to secure a victory against the sixth seeded Bulldogs.
Strong Performances
Denver Bryant stood out, going 4-for-4 at the plate and contributing two RBIs. Zoe Laneaux and Aniyah Black also performed well, each finishing 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Pitcher Alana Vawter played a key role, tallying three strikeouts in the final five innings.
Early Lead
The Gamecocks took an early lead by scoring two runs in the first inning and added two more in the second. A four-run rally in the fifth inning solidified their control of the game.

South Carolina’s eight runs set a new record for a double-digit seed in SEC Tournament history. Additionally, a crucial double play in the fourth inning tied a program record for the season.
