NEW HAVEN – The local high school sports scene was active on Friday, with numerous teams showing strong performances in soccer, volleyball, and swimming.
In boys soccer, Jonathan Law secured a decisive victory over Amistad, winning 3-0. Star players Ivan Galicinao and Kevin Cepetelli each scored goals, with Galicinao adding two to his name. Alex Rodriguez and Jakub Borowski contributed with assists, showcasing the team’s offensive strength.
Meanwhile, Morgan defeated Cromwell with a similar score of 3-0. Jonny Gutierrez made his mark by scoring two goals, while Esteban Orozco helped seal the game with another goal. Morgan’s goalkeeper, Liam Totten, made three key saves ensuring a clean sheet.
In a tight match, Ridgefield edged out Wilton 1-0, thanks to Ronan Hanley’s lone goal, assisted by Martim Dias Pinto. On the other hand, Trumbull recorded a 2-0 win against St. Joseph, with Mateus Almeida earning both goals. This victory pushed Trumbull’s record to 5 wins and 2 losses.
Bouncing into girls soccer, Amity continued its strong season with a 2-0 win against North Haven, driven by Maggie Kershnar’s two goals. Cheshire also shined, taking down Branford 4-0, with Ava Sink netting two goals and adding an assist.
In swimming, a thrilling contest saw Jonathan Law narrowly defeat Hamden 95-89. Sana Joshi led the freestyle events, while Paige Kantor excelled in diving. This victory enhances Law’s sleek record of 5 wins and 1 loss.
Overall, it was an exciting day of high school sports with teams demonstrating determination and teamwork on the field and in the water.
