The Catch-Up: Fiber Internet Expands Reach to Over 8,000 Lexington Homes

Expanding High-Speed Connectivity

Lexington County in South Carolina is embracing the era of high-speed internet thanks to Ripple Fiber, a provider of fiber-optic internet services. They have announced that their service is now live and accessible to over 8,500 households in the county, welcoming in residents of Kenwood and Royal Creek neighborhoods, among others, to take advantage of the new technology.

CEO of Ripple Fiber, Greg Wilson, said in a statement, “We are thrilled to transition our project in the Lexington area into the next phase, providing our exceptional fiber internet service to current and future residents.”

Fiber-Optic Technology Benefits

Fiber-optic cables, acclaimed for their ability to deliver the internet at impressive speeds far exceeding those of traditional cables, are also notably more robust. They can withstand many of the external influences that often disrupt connectivity, such as weather conditions and animal activities. Lexington is lucky to be the first locale in South Carolina where Ripple Fiber has commenced operations.

“We look forward to not only providing dependable fiber internet, but also proactive customer service,” says Danny Serrano, Regional Executive of Ripple Fiber. Ripple Fiber’s local office can be found at 1520 N. Lake Dr, Lexington, S.C. 29072.

Measures to Boost Mens’ Health

The Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC), is actively encouraging men to be proactive about their health, especially during National Men’s Health Week. This venture is mainly centered around ensuring that health screenings occur earlier, with the aim of warding off preventable diseases such as heart disease and diabetes.

DHEC Director Dr. Edward Simmer says that preventing these diseases is vital since men generally encounter a higher risk than women for many health issues and “die an average of nearly 6 years younger than women.”

County’s Traffic Fatalities Stand at 24

In other local updates, the South Carolina Department of Public Safety has disclosed traffic fatality statistics run from January 1 to June 9 of this year. In Lexington County, the standing traffic fatalities are alarming. A total of 24 fatalities have been reported, which is significantly higher than corresponding statistics from the previous two years. In 2023, there were 16 fatalities, down from 24 in 2021 and a mere 14 tallied in 2022.

This news serves as a wake-up call for residents and an urgent cry for more effective traffic control measures and stricter adherence to safety protocols.

Investigating a Missing Person Found

On a less positive note, the county’s law enforcement continues investigating the case of a missing person who was found dead. The Lexington County Coroner identified the body as that of Joseph Kosmos, a 37-year-old Lexington resident, who had been reported missing in May of 2024. His body was discovered off Roundtree Court in Gaston on June 6.
