High School Sports Update: Vermont Fall Season Kicks Off
This past weekend in Vermont, the high school fall sports season officially began with some exciting games across various sports including soccer, field hockey, volleyball, golf, and cross-country running.
In field hockey, a thrilling match saw Merrimack overcome Vermont with a score of 3-2. Rachel Bjorgan, Madison Cardaci, and Maria Lindberg each scored for Merrimack, while Evelyne Blais-Savoie and Alaina Tanski netted goals for Vermont. Notably, Lindberg’s late power play goal in the second period broke a tense 2-all tie and secured the victory for Merrimack.
In another match, St. Thomas took on Vermont and came out on top with a score of 3-1. Matthew Gleason, Mason Poolman, and Cooper Gay were the scorers for St. Thomas, and Max Strand managed to secure one goal for Vermont. Keenan Rancier stood tall in the goal for Vermont, making an impressive 37 saves.
On the soccer field, Leland & Gray edged out Randolph with a score of 3-2, while Vergennes triumphed over Milton, finishing 2-1. In the Vergennes match, Ethan Croke shone brightly, scoring both of Vergennes’ goals, with the second coming in the 69th minute to break a 1-all tie. Colton Reed also made a priceless contribution, saving 3 shots on goal.
Green Mountain defeated White River Valley 3-1, and Otter Valley managed to secure a 2-1 victory over Woodstock, led by Breanna Bovey’s pivotal goal in the second quarter.
