Exciting New Restaurant Concept Set to Replace Angell Bros. 1801 Grille in Downtown Columbia

Exciting Changes Ahead for a Downtown Restaurant in Columbia

Columbia, a vibrant city known for its rich culture and lively atmosphere, is about to welcome a new dining option in the downtown area. It’s always a little sad to see a beloved eatery close its doors, but good news is on the horizon!

Recently, the Angell Bros. 1801 Grille, located just steps away from the University of South Carolina’s basketball arena in the 700 Lincoln development, officially closed its doors. The restaurant had a sign up on its door thanking patrons for their support and letting everyone know that a “new and exciting restaurant concept will be opening soon.” The sign directed curious diners to check out the USC dining website for more updates.

What Happened to Angell Bros. 1801 Grille?

The Angell Bros. Grille, which had become a popular spot since it reopened in February 2023, served a diverse menu that included everything from stone-fired pizzas to steaks, seafood, and much more. Originally, the location opened in early 2017, run by Burke Hospitality Group in partnership with USC. However, it closed down in late 2022, only to come back under the Angell Bros. hospitality group’s management a few months later.

What’s Next?

USC spokesman Jeff Stensland expressed optimism about the future of the space, mentioning that they are exploring options and details for the new restaurant concept. There is even talk that this new eatery could be inspired by the successful The Golden Spur, which opened in August in USC’s Campus Village.

This coming change is bound to spark excitement among the many students and locals who frequent the area. The restaurant is perfectly located amid a bustling community filled with student residences and other shops, right across from the Colonial Life Arena, making it a prime spot for hungry visitors before or after sporting events.

Dining Options in the Area

While we await the new culinary adventure, it’s worth noting the other delicious options available nearby. Just a stone’s throw away, you’ll find popular places like Tropical Smoothie Cafe, Jersey Mike’s Subs, Crazy Wings, Starbucks, and Thirsty Fellow. This shows that, even in times of transition, Columbia’s downtown dining scene remains vibrant and exciting!

For now, Angell Bros. 1801 Grille will be missed by its patrons, but with the promise of a fresh concept on the way, there’s plenty to look forward to. Whether you’re coming to catch a game at Colonial Life Arena, meeting friends for a casual bite, or simply enjoying a night out, the new restaurant might just become your next favorite hangout.

Stay Tuned!

As we keep our ears to the ground, we’ll be watching for more announcements about the new restaurant’s opening date and its menu offerings. Mark your calendars for November, when we could see the rebirth of this space with something brand new!

Columbia continues to thrive and adapt, making it a great place to live and dine. Until the new restaurant opens, don’t forget to support the other fantastic eateries in the area—there’s no shortage of delicious meals waiting just for you!
