This weekend in Minnesota, high school sports were in full swing, showcasing some intense matchups across various tournaments.
CI Division State Tournament Semifinals
In the CI Division, the semifinals saw some thrilling action. Burnsville/Farmington/Lakeville edged past Park Center with a score of 4-2, while Dakota United defended their spot against South Suburban, winning 3-0. In the consolation semifinals, South Washington County took down St. Cloud 9-4, and Stillwater/Mahtomedi also had a strong performance against Buffalo/Monticello/STMA, winning 9-3.
Third and Fifth Place Matches
For the fifth place match, Stillwater/Mahtomedi triumphed over South Washington County with a close score of 8-5. Meanwhile, South Suburban grabbed third place with a solid win against Park Center, finishing 6-4. In the championship, Dakota United claimed the title by defeating Burnsville/Farmington/Lakeville 3-0.
PI Division State Tournament Semifinals
Over in the PI Division, Mpls. South dominated Park Center with a 13-3 victory, while Rochester shut out Dakota United 4-0. The consolation semifinals were exciting as Anoka-Hennepin beat St. Paul Humboldt by just one point, 5-4, and Robbinsdale/Hopkins/Mound Westonka crushed South Suburban 9-1. In the fifth place contest, Robbinsdale/Hopkins/Mound Westonka narrowly defeated Anoka-Hennepin 6-5. Park Center finally found a win in the third place match against Dakota United with a 7-1 score. In the thrilling championship finale, Mpls. South edged Rochester 5-4 to take first place.
High School Football Semifinals
Turning to football, the Class 5A semifinals featured Alexandria battling Owatonna with a convincing score of 42-20. The Class 3A saw Dassel-Cokato narrowly win against Pequot Lakes 29-26, while Stewartville triumphed over Albany 33-20. In Class 1A, Minneota and Parkers Prairie faced off, with Minneota dominating to a 45-0 victory.
Diving and Swimming Competitions
The Class 2A State Meet held at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center saw Minnetonka come out on top with a total of 325 points, followed closely by Edina at 300 points. Shakopee and Stillwater also performed well, earning 193 and 157 points, respectively.
Individual highlights included Cameron from Minnetonka winning the 200 freestyle in 1:48.83 and a strong dive by Kohel of Mpls. Washburn who scored 479.05 points.
