Pittsburgh saw an intense day of high school basketball on Sunday, with several tournaments taking place throughout the region. In the Geneva College/Lincoln Park tournament, Lincoln Park dominated Ambridge with a score of 53-22. Meanwhile, Neighborhood Academy put on a strong performance against Bishop Canevin, winning 62-31. The day also saw Obama Academy edge out West Allegheny in a thrilling matchup, finishing 52-49.
In the Play 4 Mae tournament held at Woodland Hills, Riverview secured a victory over Brashear, 49-38. The Woodland Hills team showcased their skills against Steel Valley, clinching a win with a solid score of 59-26. York Suburban had a strong showing as well, defeating McKeesport with a final score of 76-59.
Looking ahead to Monday, the WPIAL Rettger tournament will kick off with matchups including Aquinas Academy versus Avonworth at 6 p.m. and Seneca Valley taking on Franklin Regional at 7:30 p.m.. Nonsection games include Allderdice at Montour and Bentworth at Beth-Center, both scheduled for 7:30 p.m..
On the girls’ side, the results from the Geneva College/Lincoln Park tournament were equally impressive. Altoona took down North Allegheny with a score of 57-41, and Lincoln Park narrowly defeated Beaver Falls, 41-39. The North Allegheny tournament saw Blackhawk overcome Latrobe, 71-57, while Mt. Lebanon triumphed over North Catholic with a close score of 52-46.
Tomorrow’s WPIAL schedule features several nonsection games, including Apollo-Ridge at St. Joseph at 7 p.m. and teams like Armstrong and Highlands facing off at 7:30 p.m..
