Erie High School Sports Events Postponed Due to Winter Weather

ERIE, PA – Last Friday kicked off the start of the 2024-25 winter sports season according to the PIAA, but the weather had other plans. A strong snowstorm began blanketing the area overnight, creating hazardous conditions that have caused many local high school sports events to be postponed or cancelled altogether. The snow accumulation is significant, with the National Weather Service warning of an additional eight to 15 inches falling in
Erie County through Tuesday night. This weather situation has left the community in a near-standstill.

Due to these weather-related issues, multiple games in girls and boys basketball have been affected. Here is a list of some notable events that have been impacted:

  • Girls Basketball
    • North East at General McLane
    • Frewsburg (New York) at Cathedral Prep
    • Kennedy Catholic at Cardinal O’Hara (Tonawanda, New York)
  • Boys Basketball
    • North East at Meadville, now rescheduled for December 21 at North East
    • Erie at General McLane
    • Warren at Mercyhurst Prep

Bowling has also been affected, as the Metro League has announced that the start of their 2024-25 season will be pushed back to December 11. Teams will play every Wednesday through February 19, with a potential playoff set for February 26 at Eastland Bowl, located at 3729 McClelland Ave.

As the winter sports season begins and weather-related changes unfold, it’s essential to keep track of these postponed events. Make sure to check back frequently for updates regarding rescheduling and any new cancellations.
