Employer Signing Day Celebrated by Lexington School District Two Students

In a step towards a promising future, ten seniors from Lexington School District Two Innovation Center, Lexington, marked their career initiation by signing contracts with various companies on their signing day. These students will step into the professional world with these respected firms after they graduate later this year.

As per the press statement, Luke Boozer, Octavio Martinez-Montes, and Gared Aguirre-Santos signed with Zeus Industrial Products. Michelin Tires got onboard Naashon Fosu and Miguel Jimenez, while No Grease Barbershop recruited Josh Walker and Rahsann Dow. Dylan Morey, Daniel Samayoa, and Justin Linden inked their contracts with On The Road Again, Fogle and Sons Electric, and Central Controls Inc. respectively.

Contributing to the Community

The Lexington Two Innovation Center is acclaimed for its strategic program that prepares students to seamlessly move into the workforce or specialized training programs related to their signed companies, right after their graduation. “Our students get to start their careers right out of high school and apply their skills and competencies learned to work immediately. We get to do our part to help our business partners fill vacancies in their companies,” stated Joni Coleman, director of the Lexington Two Innovation Center.

The event saw attendees from prospective employers, Innovation Center students, relatives, faculty, and staff. “The Innovation Center has given us the opportunity to recruit, engage, and educate the next generation of machinists and maintenance technicians,” expressed April Donley-Chesser, human resource manager, Zeus Industrial Products.

Lexington Medical Center Marks Doula Program’s 30th Anniversary

In other news, Lexington Medical Center is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its successful doula program. With the continuous support of this program, more than 12,100 babies have seen life at the hospital.

“Our award-winning, state-of-the-art Birth Center welcomes more than 4,000 babies each year, many whose mothers have used doulas to help welcome their child. We are proud of our doulas who have helped play a role in supporting thousands of women and families during one of the most important times of their lives,” said Kelly Cutter, director of nursing at Lexington Medical Center.

Saluda Shoals Park’s New TRACK Trail

On April 25, the Saluda Shoals Foundation introduced a new TRACK trail at Saluda Shoals Park, a cooperative venture with Kids in Parks, the Irmo-Chapin Recreation Commission, and Dominion Energy.

The main aim of this trail is to engage children in exploring the joys of the outdoors and encourage them to admire its value. Lindsay Hudson, Saluda Shoals Park Director, said that the trail will offer children a wonderful opportunity to learn more about nature and wildlife.

Irmo High School Students Shine at Consumer Challenge

Representing South Carolina, Irmo High School students recently attended the 30th Annual LifeSmarts National Consumer Challenge in San Diego, Calif. The students competed and tested their knowledge against teams from across the country.

“Helping students to connect classroom knowledge in real-life situations is one of my favorite parts of LifeSmarts. I also enjoy helping to give students opportunities to travel across the country and have new experiences that will last a lifetime,” said coach Tari Watson.

Midlands Rivers Coalition Kicks Off Water Monitoring Season

The Midlands Rivers Coalition has initiated its eighth successive year of water quality monitoring of the major rivers in Columbia. The goal of this project is to provide river users with water quality data and issue swimming advisories if the samples do not meet the state standard for contact recreation.
