Edmonds-Woodway Warriors Secure Playoff Spot with 2-0 Win Over Meadowdale Mavericks

Edmonds-Woodway Warriors and Mountlake Terrace Hawks Conclude Regular Season with Strong Performances

In Edmonds on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, the Edmonds-Woodway Warriors finished off their regular season with a convincing 2-0 victory against the Meadowdale Mavericks. With this win, both teams have secured spots in the upcoming 3A District 1 play in/loser out round set for Thursday, October 31.

The Warriors enter the postseason as the seventh seed and will host the 10th-seeded Everett team at Edmonds-Woodway High School at 7 p.m. Meanwhile, Meadowdale, which clinched the 12th seed, is set to face fifth-seeded Shorecrest at Shoreline Stadium at 6 p.m. This game will be a critical moment as the winners will move on to the double elimination eight-team District tournament, while the losing teams will see their seasons come to a close.

In the latest matchup, the goals for Edmonds-Woodway came from Ava Huse and Janie Hanson, who received an assist from Bella Dreitzler. The Warriors’ goalkeeper, Alice Everett, achieved a shutout for the match. The Warriors concluded their season with a 7-5 league record and 11-5 overall, while Meadowdale’s records fell to 4-8 in league play and 7-9 overall.

In another match, the Mountlake Terrace Hawks secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Arlington, with Ally Villalobos Van Slooten scoring the only goal from a corner kick by Claire August. Jordyn Stokes, the Hawks’ goalkeeper, also posted a shutout, which helped them finish the regular season on a high note. The Hawks are heading into the 3A District 1 play in/loser out round as the 11th seed, and they will be up against 6th-seed Stanwood at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

The Hawks ended their regular season with a record of 5-9-1, while Arlington’s record stood at 6-10. Each team will be looking to advance in the district tournament in their upcoming matches.
