News Summary

The highly anticipated ‘Dining on the Dam’ event in Lexington, scheduled for April 6, has been canceled due to inclement weather. Organizers prioritized safety as heavy rain and potential thunderstorms are forecasted. Although disappointing, ticket holders will have their tickets honored for a rescheduled fall event, keeping the spirit of good food and live music alive for future enjoyment.

Lexington’s Dining on the Dam Event Canceled Due to Weather Woes

It’s a bummer for all food lovers in Lexington! The highly anticipated Dining on the Dam event, which was set for Sunday, April 6, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., has been officially canceled due to an uninvited guest—bad weather. As the forecast develops, residents are reminded that safety comes first, and after consultations with various agencies and event vendors, the organizers decided it was best to call it off this year.

This annual event usually attracts hundreds of attendees flocking to the stunning top of the Lake Murray Dam, perched above the Saluda River. It’s a picturesque spot that boasts the title of the Midlands’ largest lake—an ideal backdrop for an evening filled with delicious food, live music, and breathtaking sunset views. But Mother Nature had other plans this time around.

Rain, Rain, Go Away!

Just when the event was gearing up to serve incredible food from Southern Way Catering, with live tunes from The Big Time Band, aside from cocktails, beer, and wine, the weather forecast took a turn. AccuWeather has predicted an 84% chance of rain throughout Sunday, with potential thunderstorms rolling through the area. That’s right—those raindrops could have turned a splendid evening into a soggy affair.

Safety first! The Lexington Chamber and Visitors Center made the wise decision given the potential risks. The team recognizes that an event of this scale, which includes road closures and limited parking, must prioritize the safety of its attendees. On the day of the event, planned road closures were to start bright and early at 6:00 a.m. on April 6, extending until after midnight on April 7. Fans of the event know that roads, including the upper road on the dam and the scenic walking path, were to be shut down to accommodate all the fun!

Don’t Worry, It Will Be Back!

While it’s disappointing that the event won’t take place this season, Chamber President Angelle LaBorde has some good news—mark your calendars because the event is likely to be rescheduled for the fall! For those who have already purchased tickets, rest assured that they will remain valid for the new date. Previous ticket purchases, though nonrefundable, will not go to waste, and ticket holders will get to enjoy the rescheduled event when the time comes.

As we all know, good food and fantastic company are worth the wait. The event’s charm lies not just in the delicious offerings but also in the vibrant atmosphere. The combination of dining with a view, swirling cocktails, and the rhythm of live music is simply hard to beat!

Get Ready for the Rescheduled Fun!

So, while we might still feel a twinge of disappointment about this weekend’s cancellation, let’s keep our spirits high! Just think about all the delicious food you’ll still be able to savor as the event relaunches in the future. Plus, who wouldn’t want to enjoy that gorgeous sunset over Lake Murray—just at a slightly later date?

Keep an eye out for updates as the Chamber rolls out details on the rescheduled event. For now, let’s stay cozy and dry, dreaming of the delightful Dining on the Dam experience that awaits us all when the weather is more favorable.
