Georgia Mjartan assumes role with extensive executive experience

Central Carolina Community Foundation, a philanthropic cornerstone in South Carolina, has selected Georgia Mjartan as its new president and CEO. The Foundation’s Board of Trustees made the announcement, with Georgia set to take on the role from July 1.

Georgia brings two decades of executive experience, having served in public, nonprofit, and philanthropic sectors. Since 2017, Georgia served as the executive director of South Carolina First Steps, a state agency and nonprofit responsible for grantmaking, managing 46 county-level nonprofit affiliates, and facilitating partnerships with more than 300 providers.

A Wealth of Experience

As a leader in the Early Childhood Advisory Council, Georgia and her team developed an innovative technology platform that simplifies the enrollment process for over 40 different early childhood programs. Such a feat is a first-of-its-kind in the nation. Among its numerous charitable initiatives, the Central Carolina Community Foundation oversees over 525 charitable funds and manages more than $215 million in assets, connecting philanthropy with community-driven projects.

Speaking on Georgia’s appointment, Cory Manning, board chair, expressed his excitement. He stated, “We have a history of transformative leadership at Central Carolina Community Foundation. Georgia will not only continue that history, but she will redefine what it means to transform an organization. I am thrilled to welcome Georgia as our new leader.”

Deep Commitment to Community

Georgia’s dedication to fostering thriving communities is evident in her professional and civic service. Under her leadership, South Carolina First Steps expanded its reach to serve 55,000 children annually and even became a permanent state agency. The organization has facilitated the launch of new, evidence-backed programs for young children and developed nationally celebrated innovations.

Besides her public and nonprofit endeavors, Georgia worked as a consultant for renowned philanthropic organizations like the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, served on several boards, and has been recognized multiple times for her contributions. Her accolades include being named “Nonprofit Executive of the Year,” “Arkansan of the Year,” and “Woman of Influence” by business journals in Arkansas and South Carolina. She was also named one of the “Southerners of the Year” by Southern Living Magazine.

In response to her appointment, Georgia said, “I am grateful for the opportunity to steward the resources of so many dedicated philanthropists who believe in sharing their wealth to create meaningful and measurable change. I look forward to the lasting impact Central Carolina Community Foundation will make on our interconnected futures.”

A Future Full of Potential

With Georgia Mjartan at the helm, the Central Carolina Community Foundation is set to further its mission of connecting local residents with high-impact philanthropy and fostering a thriving community through grants and scholarships.
