Columbia Weather Update: Rain to Wrap Up Early, Sun on the Horizon!
Hey there, Columbia! If you’re waking up and wondering what the weather has in store for you today, we have a little bit of everything. As of now, we’ve got a solid downpour making its way through town, but don’t let that dampen your spirits. The rain is expected to wrap up early, making way for some delightful breaks of sunshine this afternoon.
Morning Forecast
This morning, we’re kicking things off with a high of around 67°F. Sounds lovely, right? But hold on—don’t get too cozy in those summer clothes! As the day rolls on, temperatures will be dipping and settling near 45°F. You might want to have a sweater handy for that afternoon stroll!
Wind and Rain Details
Now, let’s talk about that breeze! Winds are blowing from the WSW at about 15 to 25 mph—definitely enough to make your hair stand on end if you’re not careful. And for all you rain lovers, it’s a 100% chance of rain, with forecasts predicting a splash of around half an inch. So, keep those raincoats and umbrellas within reach, just in case!
Looking Ahead to Tonight
As we head into the evening, it’s going to be a clear night with temperatures plummeting down to about 32°F. That cold snap means a chilly wrap-up to your day, so it might be a good night for that cozy blanket and a hot drink.
Exciting Water Infrastructure Project Underway
In other news, Columbia is buzzing with excitement about a major project aimed at enhancing the water system! The City of Columbia and Columbia Water are hard at work constructing about 17,000 feet of 16-inch ductile-iron pipe along North Trenholm Road and Decker Blvd., all the way to Forest Drive. What’s the goal? Improving water quality and functionality while boosting water pressure in the Forest Acres area!
What to Expect
Benjamin Wildt, the utilities communications manager for the City, has some good news! He anticipates that the project will be completed within a year. How cool is that? The city has been quick to act by hiring two contractors to help speed things along, ensuring the work wraps up before the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) kicks off their resurfacing on Trenholm Road.
Traffic Advisory
Motorists, be prepared! With multiple crews likely working at the same time, much of the activity will be happening in the middle turn lane. For your safety and convenience, please obey all traffic control devices and signage, and if you can, seek an alternative route while the project is ongoing.
