Columbia Spring Break Roundup

Spring break is finally here in Columbia, South Carolina. Whether you need a change in your routine or simply a break, here are some on- and off-campus activities to do when you don’t have class March 3-10.

Things to Know

Student Government provides a shuttle to and from Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE) for students. Reservations are required. The shuttle will pick up students at the airport on March 10 at noon and 5 p.m. The Blatt P.E. Center will be closed, but the Wellness and Fitness Center will remain open. Hours can be found on the Campus Rec website. The South Caroliniana Library will be operating with normal hours. All residence halls will remain open during spring break.

Things to do in Columbia

Let’s get physical! This week is the perfect opportunity to check out the fun classes offered on IMLeagues.com. From Zumba, pilates, yoga, cycling and more, there’s something different on each day of spring break. Plus all the classes are free for this week. It is the perfect time to try local cuisine. Newly opened restaurants include Masa Mexican Street Food and Banh Mi Boys. Escape the rainy spring weather by catching a movie. The Nickelodeon will be playing two movies this week – Drive Away Dolls and Dune: Part 2. Still want the feeling of a vacation but don’t want to leave town? Enjoy a staycation at local hotels such as the Hotel Trundle, located in the heart of the Main Street district.

Things to do outside Columbia

The Riverbanks Zoo and Garden is home to over 3,000 animals as well as flora and fauna. Journey to another world within driving distance of campus. Located only 30 miles from the heart of campus, Lake Murray is a great place to enjoy the outdoors. The Lexington County lake offers golfing, hiking and boating. To the northeast of Columbia is Lake Wateree State Park with over 13,000 acres of land and water to be explored. Park hours are from sunrise to sunset and an admission fee of $3 is required to enter. Need of a bigger change of scenery? Columbia is about two hours from Charleston and Greenville, a little closer to Charlotte and a little farther from Atlanta.
