Celebrating Culinary Excellence in Columbia
Columbia, South Carolina, is getting ready to celebrate its vibrant culinary scene on Monday, November 25, with the annual Columbia Restaurant Hall of Fame and Benefit Dinner. Taking place at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, this festive event will shine a spotlight on two exceptional individuals and three standout restaurants that have made a significant impact in our community.
A Stellar Tribute
The Greater Columbia Chapter of the South Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association is gearing up to recognize the hard work and dedication of local restaurateurs who have gone above and beyond in their fields. The highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award to two remarkable individuals, Carmella and Joe Roche, owners of the iconic Villa Tronco.
With an impressive 85 years of service to the Midlands, the Roche family has built a legacy that embodies family values and a strong work ethic that has been passed down through generations. Their restaurant, Villa Tronco, has not only satisfied the appetites of many but has also served as a cornerstone of the Columbia community.
Meet the Hall of Fame Inductees
This year, the Restaurant Hall of Fame inductees include three delightful establishments that have made culinary waves in Columbia:
- Saluda’s: Nestled in the heart of the Five Points neighborhood, just steps away from the University of South Carolina, Saluda’s has been delighting hungry patrons since 1996. Led by owner Steve Cook and his skilled team, this restaurant has made a name for itself with its creative Southern cuisine.
- Firehouse Subs: Larry Chandler, owner of TLC Enterprises LLC, runs the nation’s largest franchise of Firehouse Subs, boasting over 39 locations throughout North and South Carolina. Not only is Firehouse known for its delicious subs, but it also takes its role in the community seriously, raising over $3.3 million for public safety organizations.
- Mill Pond Steakhouse: Located in the historic town of Boykin, just outside of Columbia, Mill Pond Steakhouse has been serving exceptional meals since 2006. Under the leadership of Mark Price, the restaurant offers a fine-dining experience with an impressive selection of dry- and wet-aged beef and a full bar where guests can unwind.
The Legacy of Excellence
Since its inception, the South Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association (SCRLA) has honored over 50 restaurateurs who have made significant contributions to the hospitality industry. This ongoing tradition emphasizes the importance of recognizing those who continue to elevate culinary experiences across the state.
The anticipation for this year’s Columbia Restaurant Hall of Fame and Benefit Dinner is palpable. It’s not just about the awards but the community spirit that brings everyone together—the restaurateurs, the industry professionals, and, of course, the loyal patrons who support these local treasures.
As the event draws nearer, many are eagerly looking forward to the chance to celebrate the hard work and dedication of those who keep the dining scene in Columbia lively and delicious. Whether you’re a local foodie or a newcomer to the area, this honor underscores the rich tapestry of culinary talent that our beloved city boasts.
Make sure to mark your calendars for November 25 and join in the celebration of our local culinary heroes. This is a chance not only to applaud their achievements but also to partake in the shared love of food that continues to bring our community together.
