Columbia’s Community Comes Together for Free Egg Giveaway!

This past Friday morning, the vibrant and bustling streets of Columbia were filled with the spirit of togetherness and community as the Right Direction Church International opened its doors for a heartwarming free egg giveaway event. With the intention of lending a hand to families in need, the church welcomed locals to come and grab some eggs as part of their mission to support the community. And let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a free egg or two, especially around this cheerful season?

A Collaborative Effort

Partnering with Richland County Councilwoman Gretchen Barron, the church aimed to make a positive impact by providing around 100 eggs for the eager families who showed up. It’s fantastic to see local leaders uniting with churches to help those who might be struggling to make ends meet. The eggs were graciously donated by a distribution company passionate about providing assistance to those in need, making the event not just fun, but also deeply meaningful.

Plans for the Future

The Right Direction Church International isn’t stopping here! With ambitious goals set for 2025, the church is committed to finding even more innovative ways to serve the community. This commitment to ongoing service brings a sense of hope and reassurance that Columbia has a community willing to lend a helping hand whenever necessary.

Jumping into Easter Fun!

As the Easter season approaches, local excitement is brewing with plenty of Easter egg hunts planned for children and families throughout Mansfield and Richland County. Families can look forward to delightful Easter egg hunts scheduled to take place from March 16 to March 30. These events are being organized by various local organizations, including Cayce’s Best Afterschool and Summer Camp, ensuring that there are plenty of family-friendly activities to enjoy this holiday.

A Heartfelt Initiative: ColaEats Steps In

ColaEats has announced plans to distribute $120 gift cards to 1,500 families in need throughout the summer. Supporting families across the Richland One, Richland Two, and Lexington-Richland 5 school districts, ColaEats is stepping up to fill the gap left by the recent decision of the Governor of South Carolina to decline a Summer EBT program that would have provided $65 million in assistance for food. This means that families will not have guaranteed access to nutritious meals while school is out.

Wrapping Up Summertime Support

Backpack Buddies, which aims to alleviate food insecurity observed outside the classroom. Schools participating in the National School Lunch Program will be eligible for the ColaEats gift cards, which can only be used at Food Lion for a variety of essential food items. So, families can fill their carts with needed groceries, ensuring that no child goes hungry during the summer.

Get Involved!

First Citizens Bank, through mail to the Urban League, or even online. Helping out has never been easier, and it’s a great way to be a part of a community focused on lifting each other up!

Columbia is truly proving that together, as a community, we can bring joy and support to families during this special season. So, whether you’re hunting for eggs or looking to lend a hand, there’s plenty happening in this friendly city where love and support are always in the air!
