The funeral services for Chester took place on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at the Haddock Baptist Church. With the service beginning at 3:00 p.m., family and friends gathered an hour earlier for a time of remembrance and support. The atmosphere was filled with love and shared memories as those close to Chester filled the church with stories and laughter, a testimony to the deep bonds he had forged throughout his life. A respected figure, Dr. Ron McClung officiated the service, guiding everyone through a heartfelt tribute to Chester’s life.

Chester Mercer was not just a longtime resident; he was a vital part of the fabric of Gray. As a retired electrician for Tri-County EMC, he dedicated many years to serving the community, ensuring the lights stayed on for households and businesses alike. His involvement did not stop there, though, as he also served as a long-term member of the board for Tri-County EMC, providing guidance and support to both employees and consumers.

Outside of his professional life, Chester was known for his love of the great outdoors. Whether he was gardening in his backyard, fishing at the local lakes, or heading out for a deer hunting excursion, Chester embraced all that nature had to offer. His enthusiasm for outdoor activities was contagious, inspiring many in the community to enjoy and appreciate the beautiful surroundings of Gray.

A Devoted Family Man

Family meant everything to Chester. He leaves behind his cherished daughter, Sarah A. Mercer, of Gray, Georgia, who has been a constant source of love and support throughout his life. Chester also shared his life with his companion, Grace Seymore, from Chapin, South Carolina, ensuring that his heart was filled with love until his last days.

Chester’s legacy continues through his two sisters, Florence Bohannon of Forsyth, Georgia, and Linda Morrison of Jackson, Georgia. His family grew with the addition of two stepdaughters, Bonnie Danis of Prosperity, South Carolina, and Wendy Crump of Chapin, South Carolina. Together they formed a wonderful network of relatives that will undoubtedly carry on Chester’s spirit of love and kindness.
