Chatfield Boys Basketball Team Shows Strong Start This Season

Littleton, CO – The Chatfield boys basketball program is off to a strong start this season, shaking off last year’s disappointing 4-19 record. Senior Creighton Chaney expressed the challenges of uniting the team but emphasized the effort everyone is putting in. “We’ve put the work in and decided to step it up. We don’t want teams to look at us on their schedule and just bypass us,” said Chaney.

Under the leadership of new head coach Nathan Jerome, the Chargers have kicked off their season with a 2-1 record. They recently showcased their talents with a convincing 68-36 win against D’Evelyn during the Charger Tournament held at Chatfield High School. Coach Jerome mentioned that rebuilding confidence was essential for the team. “It is just a change in thinking,” he stated. This season, the squad features a mix of talents, starting two seniors, a junior, and two sophomores in their recent victory.

The game against D’Evelyn saw the Chargers stampede to an early 10-0 lead, but the Jaguars managed to rally briefly to take a 12-10 lead. Jerome noted that while they still have improvements to make offensively, their focus on defense is paying off. “Defense is definitely where we want to start everything,” he added. The Chargers only allowed 23 points in the last three quarters, demonstrating their defensive strength.

Sophomore Brody Logan led the scoring with 14 points, while Chaney contributed 10 points to the effort. Coach Jerome was also able to give all players some court time during the rout. “The kids are awesome, and I know they want to be good young men,” Jerome said.

Chaney is also passionate about mentorship within the team, stating, “It always comes down to mentoring. I look after the freshmen and sophomores.” His leadership is evident as the team prepares for their next showdown against Highlands Ranch on December 13.

As the tournament progresses, Chatfield will compete against Highlands Ranch, which holds a 3-1 record. The Charger’s focus remains, as Chaney stated, “Every game is important no matter what. You want to prove you are a tough team. Hopefully, we can bring this one home and win this tournament. That’s our goal.”

The tournament final will be held at Heritage High School on December 14, presenting an exciting opportunity for the Chargers to continue building on their promising start this season.
