Chapin, S.C. (November 1, 2024) – The search for a murder suspect is underway as Chapin police continue their efforts to locate Nicholas Hamlett. He is wanted for first-degree murder in connection with a homicide that took place in Tennessee.
Authorities reported that Hamlett was last seen near Chapin High School around 12:30 a.m. today. As of 8:30 a.m., he has not yet been apprehended. The police are actively searching the area and working closely with the local schools to ensure the safety of students and staff.
The U.S. Marshals Service is involved in the case and has provided a reward of $5,000 for any information that leads to Hamlett’s arrest. Investigators advise that he is considered armed and dangerous. Hamlett is described as being 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing about 170 pounds, with blue eyes and brown hair. He is also known to use multiple aliases and may currently be using the name Brandon Andrade.
Due to the ongoing situation, schools in the Chapin area have been placed on a secure status. Officials from the Lexington-Richland School District 5 sent out a message to parents stating that while schools are operating on a normal schedule, there is an increased law enforcement presence. They assured families that if a lockdown becomes necessary, the schools will quickly implement it.
As of 9:13 a.m., the following schools are under a modified secure status: Chapin Elementary School, Chapin Intermediate School, and Chapin High School. This means that no outdoor activities are allowed, but students are still permitted to enter and leave the buildings.
The school officials notified families of the situation early this morning and emphasized their commitment to communicating with local law enforcement throughout the search. Parents are encouraged to remain alert and report any sightings or information regarding Hamlett directly to the police by calling 911.
Authorities continue to emphasize the need for community vigilance as they actively hunt for the suspect. More updates will follow as the situation develops.
